I really enjoyed working on this painting as I have visited this food hall for years at various times on different days and have always found it to be very, very busy. However Saturday afternoons are un-be-leavable. Wall to wall people jostle and waltz around each other to find the best bargains in this fantastic and crazy (yes crazy) fish and meat hall. I believe that this hall should be in the Guinness book of records for being for being the busiest and loudest for its size - ever. Two paracetamols are recommended one hour prior to entering the ‘zone’. When one vendor shouts out in order to gain your attention, another shouts louder. Yet another will let you know just who you should shop with, in a manner equivalent to any seasoned town cryer. Earplugs do not help in any way - trust me! Noise aside, these traders are amongst the most helpful and professional that you could wish for. If you require a certain cut of meat, these people are experts and will offer you the most economic options. If you need that fresh salmon filleting - they will do so expertly and even pick the smaller bones out with a pair of tweezers. Their are genuine bargains to be had here with trays of chicken breasts - gammon steaks - sirloin steaks etc. sold at prices which you cannot ignore. I have my favourite stalls of course, as most people do but I really cannot comment further in case I get a cod’s head thrown at me at my next visit. Shopping can be such good fun!
